Workshop Mrs. Manjiri Latey
Workshop on “Art of Handling Criticism” Conducted By: Mrs. Manjiri Latey
If there is one thing in common between friends and foes, it is their power to criticize you. On the 1st of August 2009, we, the students of the Symbiosis School of Economics, had a workshop on the topic ‘Art of handling Criticism’. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Manjiri Latey. She has done a Masters Degree in outdoor education from Trinity College, UK. She is a Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming.
To start off, the students were asked to associate themselves with either a living or non-living object. Students related themselves to a variety of things, from clowns to rabbits to eagles to even a Siamese fighter fish. Mrs. Latey conducted this exercise so as to clearly understand how we felt about ourselves.
Madam’s workings are mainly based on NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programme).Through various exercises, we were shown how Language, Focus, and Physiology from the three vertices of a triangle and how a change in any one of them affects the other two.
Through the three-hour long workshop, she showed that criticism is of two types- positive and negative. The students were made to learn how to shield themselves against negative criticism and how positive criticism is good for all. This was one of the most exciting workshops the students have ever had the privilege of attending. At the end of the session, some of the students had tears in their eyes and some of the others could not hide their happiness. That is exactly what criticism does to you; it either makes you or breaks you.
